Wedding disco, The Clifton Club, Bristol 1st June 2013

I'd visited the Clifton Club before - not as a DJ but as a guest at a networking event many years before. I remembered how beautiful it was then but I must admit I'd forgotten just how stunning it was.

The brief from the Gemma (the Bride) was for subtle, non 'school disco' lighting and a more sophisticated music mix than you would get at a traditional Wedding disco.

The lighting was simple - the room was perfect for uplighters in their chosen theme colour. These along with a slightly paired down set-up was the perfect back drop for the evenings entertainment.

My set-up earlier that evening

The music was a slightly different matter. In practice Gemma didn't want any modern music or r'n'b. These are two of my favourite genres but there are certainly many other musical avenues to visit during the course of a Wedding disco. And as always I like a challenge.

Sometimes the musical vision a Bride and Groom have for their special night is not always shared by their guests. This can lead to a few awkward moments for a DJ when songs I've been asked not to play are requested. Luckily there wasn't much of this and even several R'n'b songs were allowed to be played as the night unfolded. The Bride and Groom had also asked for requests from guests before the event so I had a short list of songs to play that I knew would keep some of them happy.

With dancing until half past midnight is was a fun night - made even more special by the gorgeous venue and friendly staff.

Getting the party started
UPDATE I received the following kind message after the couple returned from their honeymoon:

I just wanted to say thank you for the brilliant set you played at our wedding at Clifton Club on 1 June. You kept us dancing all night, quality tune after tune - we loved it! You even listened to our no RnB rule (even my mum had to get permission ha!) Shame it had to finish at 12.30 as I reckon we could have gone on until 3am at least!

Thanks again, if I need a DJ for my 30th I'll definitely drop you a mail!
