Sweet 16th Birthday party, Burnham-on-sea, 21st September 2012

Sweet 16th birthday parties, like school Proms seem to be really catching on thanks to MTV and the like. Yes it's good news for DJ's but it's also a great way to celebrate a special occasion. 

On this occasion the birthday girl arrived in style in a vintage car and there was a photographer taking shots of everyone in a special booth. This together with the beautiful Princess Theatre as the venue... and ahem, myself and you've got the perfect package.

Don't put your disco on the stage. Why ever not?

Instead of ball gowns and suits it was fancy dress all the way and everyone had made a brilliant effort. I was honoured, and slightly embarrassed, to be given the role of sole judge of the competition to select who was the best dressed boy and girl.

One thing that always surprises me is that a majority of people think 16 year old kids these days would be into the latest chart tunes, R'n'B, dubstep etc. Well in part they are, but the nights biggest responses came from songs that were released before any of them were born. Rick Astley, The Macarena... gulp, Whigfield? They even knew all the dances. Amazing.

Halfway through the night a Pinata was lowered from the ceiling and bashed to pieces by Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Chewbacca and a host of fairies. I wasn't expecting that. Adding some Wurzels in as background music made it even more surreal. As the night drew to a close I can certainly say I had a great time and I think everyone else did.
